The FFv1, APV and ProRes encoders each drove their execution pool by hand, and either submitted a frame or returned a packet on each call, never both. With a depth of N that filled N contexts and then drained them, leaving the GPU idle for the drain, and the default depth of 1 was fully synchronous. FFVkEncodeLoop keeps up to pool_size frames in flight, and returns the oldest packet as soon as its execution completes, or once the pool is full. It also carries the packet metadata, and flushes what is in flight, which the encoders advertised but did not implement. ProRes now honours async_depth and no longer leaks its per-context data on close. 1080p 4:2:2 10-bit, depth 2: ProRes on RADV goes from 44 to 61 fps and APV on ANV from 194 to 235 fps. Output is unchanged at every depth.
FFmpeg README
FFmpeg is a collection of libraries and tools to process multimedia content such as audio, video, subtitles and related metadata.
Libraries
libavcodecprovides implementation of a wider range of codecs.libavformatimplements streaming protocols, container formats and basic I/O access.libavutilincludes hashers, decompressors and miscellaneous utility functions.libavfilterprovides means to alter decoded audio and video through a directed graph of connected filters.libavdeviceprovides an abstraction to access capture and playback devices.libswresampleimplements audio mixing and resampling routines.libswscaleimplements color conversion and scaling routines.
Tools
- ffmpeg is a command line toolbox to manipulate, convert and stream multimedia content.
- ffplay is a minimalistic multimedia player.
- ffprobe is a simple analysis tool to inspect multimedia content.
- Additional small tools such as
aviocat,ismindexandqt-faststart.
