Pierrick Bouvier b36a3fb229 dump: reimplement cpu_get_dump_info using get_dump_info sysemu op
Now that all targets implement the get_dump_info sysemu op, we can
replace the per-target cpu_get_dump_info() implementations (and its stub)
with a single generic version in hw/core/cpu-system.c, taking the cpu as

We always check if there is at least one cpu available. For instance,
machine null has no cpu present. Heterogeneous emulation is
already handled by the check above which disable dump.

Pierrick Bouvier c54f3a4d11 dump/dump: do not dump machine if doing heterogeneous emulation
This would need some refactoring to do it correctly over all targets
involved. For now, simply prevent this from happening.

We do the check at beginning of function, so no need to call cleanup

Marc-André Lureau f3900cfb0c monitor: tighten monitor_printf*()
Rename monitor_printf->monitor_hmp_printf, monitor_vprintf->
monitor_hmp_vprintf, and monitor_printc->monitor_hmp_printc, changing
the first parameter from Monitor * to MonitorHMP * to enforce type
safety. The implementation is also simplified: monitor_hmp_vprintf now
directly calls g_strdup_vprintf + monitor_puts, removing the virtual
dispatch via moncls->vprintf.

The dev_print() callbacks are temporarily using the MONITOR_HMP(mon)
cast, they are fixed in the following commits.

Early return in qemu_vprintf() if "hmp" is NULL, relying on
monitor_hmp_vprintf() handling NULL case is a bit uncommon.

HMP commands are specific to the HMP monitor, so make the cmd function

strengthens type safety and makes the HMP-specific nature of these

Handler functions are renamed to take MonitorHMP *hmp, with a local
Monitor *mon = MONITOR(hmp) added where the body needs the base type.
Following patches will drop it, since most functions are HMP specific.

Denis V. Lunev 1c0e259c5a dump: make win_dump_available() check vmcoreinfo for a Windows dump header
QMP query-dump-guest-memory-capability reports win-dmp as available for
any x86 VM, and dump-guest-memory accepts the win-dmp format
unconditionally. Both are wrong: win-dmp only works when the guest has
published a Windows dump header through vmcoreinfo.

The guest registers that note with the vmcoreinfo device (its physical
address and size), so win_dump_available() can read it back directly and
validate the note size and the Windows dump header signature. This needs
no other guest state, so it does not stop the vCPUs.

The capability query reads the note on the main thread with the BQL held
and has no migration guard of its own, so it is skipped while a migration
destination is still receiving guest RAM: there the read would deadlock
against the postcopy load (which needs the BQL) or, in precopy, see
incomplete pages.

Based on the original work of Nikolai Barybin.

Denis V. Lunev 9d9d449180 dump: refuse dump-guest-memory while guest RAM is being migrated
dump-guest-memory reads all of guest RAM. The existing guard only rejects
the dump in RUN_STATE_INMIGRATE, i.e. the precopy load phase. On a
postcopy destination the guest already runs (RUN_STATE_RUNNING) while its
pages are pulled from the source on demand.

A non-detached dump reads that RAM on the main thread with the BQL held.
Touching a not-yet-received page blocks on the userfault, and because the
postcopy incoming path itself takes the BQL to install pages, the
transfer that would satisfy the fault cannot progress: the VM deadlocks.

Use migration_guest_ram_loading(), which also covers postcopy, so the
dump is refused for the whole time the destination is still receiving
guest RAM.

Daniel P. Berrangé 407bc4bf90 qapi: Move include/qapi/qmp/ to include/qobject/
The general expectation is that header files should follow the same
file/path naming scheme as the corresponding source file. There are
various historical exceptions to this practice in QEMU, with one of
the most notable being the include/qapi/qmp/ directory. Most of the

This patch corrects most of that inconsistency by creating

Stefan Hajnoczi 195801d700 system/cpus: rename qemu_mutex_lock_iothread() to bql_lock()
The Big QEMU Lock (BQL) has many names and they are confusing. The
actual QemuMutex variable is called qemu_global_mutex but it's commonly
referred to as the BQL in discussions and some code comments. The
locking APIs, however, are called qemu_mutex_lock_iothread() and
qemu_mutex_unlock_iothread().

The "iothread" name is historic and comes from when the main thread was
split into into KVM vcpu threads and the "iothread" (now called the main
loop thread). I have contributed to the confusion myself by introducing
a separate --object iothread, a separate concept unrelated to the BQL.

The "iothread" name is no longer appropriate for the BQL. Rename the
locking APIs to:
- void bql_lock(void)
- void bql_unlock(void)
- bool bql_locked(void)

There are more APIs with "iothread" in their names. Subsequent patches
will rename them. There are also comments and documentation that will be
updated in later patches.

the entire vmcore. The flattened format can also be directly read by
crash, but still, it requires a lengthy reassembly phase.

To sum up, the flattened format is not an ideal one: it should only be
used on files which are actually not seekable. This is the exact
strategy which makedumpfile uses, as seen in the implementation of
"write_buffer()" in makedumpfile [1]. However, QEMU has always used the
flattened format. For compatibility it is best not to change the default
output format without warning. So, add a flag to DumpState which changes
the output to use the normal (i.e. raw) format. This flag will be added
to the QMP and HMP commands in the next change.

Steve Sistare c8a7fc5179 migration: simplify blockers
Modify migrate_add_blocker and migrate_del_blocker to take an Error **
reason. This allows migration to own the Error object, so that if
an error occurs in migrate_add_blocker, migration code can free the Error
and clear the client handle, simplifying client code. It also simplifies
the migrate_del_blocker call site.

In addition, this is a pre-requisite for a proposed future patch that would
add a mode argument to migration requests to support live update, and
maintain a list of blockers for each mode. A blocker may apply to a single
mode or to multiple modes, and passing Error** will allow one Error object
to be registered for multiple modes.

No functional change.

Dongli Zhang 8a64609eea dump: kdump-zlib data pages not dumped with pvtime/aarch64
The kdump-zlib data pages are not dumped from aarch64 host when the
'pvtime' is involved, that is, when the block->target_end is not aligned to
page_size. In the below example, it is expected to dump two blocks.

(qemu) info mtree -f
... ...
  00000000090a0000-00000000090a0fff (prio 0, ram): pvtime KVM
... ...
  0000000040000000-00000001bfffffff (prio 0, ram): mach-virt.ram KVM
... ...

However, there is an issue with get_next_page() so that the pages for
"mach-virt.ram" will not be dumped.

At line 1296, although we have reached at the end of the 'pvtime' block,
since it is not aligned to the page_size (e.g., 0x10000), it will not break
at line 1298.

1255 static bool get_next_page(GuestPhysBlock **blockptr, uint64_t *pfnptr,
1256                           uint8_t **bufptr, DumpState *s)
... ...
1294             memcpy(buf + addr % page_size, hbuf, n);
1295             addr += n;
1296             if (addr % page_size == 0) {
1297 /* we filled up the page */
1298                 break;
1299             }

As a result, get_next_page() will continue to the next
block ("mach-virt.ram"). Finally, when get_next_page() returns to the
caller:

- 'pfnptr' is referring to the 'pvtime'
- but 'blockptr' is referring to the "mach-virt.ram"

When get_next_page() is called the next time, "*pfnptr += 1" still refers
to the prior 'pvtime'. It will exit immediately because it is out of the
range of the current "mach-virt.ram".

The fix is to break when it is time to come to the next block, so that both
'pfnptr' and 'blockptr' refer to the same block.
