NumShards meant two different things: the number of half-duplex queue shards (raising it usually hurts and needs Unordered on the async face), and, with FullDuplex, the number of held full-duplex connections (raising it is the only way past one connection's ceiling). FullDuplexPipes now names the full-duplex pipe count. NumShards > 1 is still honored under FullDuplex when FullDuplexPipes is 0, so 9.23.0 configs keep working; Validate rejects the two set to different values. Unlike NumShards, FullDuplexPipes has no effect when full duplex cannot engage, so it never turns into unordered half-duplex shards. Cluster full duplex keeps one pipe per master.
