fx treated image input as native only when the model catalog listed both vision and file-input. The AI Gateway uses file-input for documents such as PDFs, and fx sends images as AI SDK file parts with an image media type, which only vision governs. Models listed with vision alone, including the default spacexai/grok-4.7, had their images withheld or routed through the vision tool, and libfx tool images never reached them. The image decision for each request is now one pure step function in src/core/images/image_route.zig, with the orchestrator running its effects. It asks the catalog again before choosing a route rather than after, so one request no longer mixes two capability answers. tests/tla/image_route models the step in TLA+, and bun run verify there checks the real function against the model in both directions.
